I've been trying to do everything I can to make my rifle 1/4 MOA or better at 500yds. I purchased this scope mount in conjunction with a pair of Seekins 30mm scope rings and couldn't be happier. The rail has a nice finish out of the box, yet I was prepared to bed the rail to hlep with any possible stress relief from torqueing from mounting. Surprisingly, there is no flex or warping of this rail so it did not need bedding to the receiver! The only downside I can see is if the scope is on the shorter side or has a really steep angle for the bell of the objective lense, there may be some clearance issues. If I build another rifle or help a friend with theirs, this rail will be the first one I choose for mounting any scopes.

I will give EGW the benefit of the doubt and assume Ruger has several barrel profiles for the no.1 and this rail is meant for the 308, I tried to mount this on a ruger no 1 chambered in 6.5 creedmore and the picatinny rail did not even come close to matching the contour of the barrel. The bottom needed to be completely reshaped in order to make full contact with the barrel. In the end I am pleased with the result but this was not a simple job for the average user.

The rail itself is a quality made item. This is going on a brand new rifle that I bought in about 1987. Apparently, the profile of the rifle, where the barrel goes into the receiver, changed at some later date on #1's. Mine is beveled up the sides and square for about 5/8" on the top. The radius on the bottom rear of the rail hits this square shoulder before the rail can seat. You either have to do a lot of filing or take it to a machine shop to be milled. Mine is at a machine shop now. This is a 270 Winchester with a 26" barrel. Using the stock rail and Ruger rings you can only use about a 6 power scope. My Leupold goes up to 14 power and you have to go into contortions to get close enough to get a full picture. A Leupold AR one piece base and 30mm rings has a 2.5 inch offset. Turn it around backwards from the way you would put it on an AR and the scope can be moved back to where you can get a full picture. Walla!!!
