This is an excellent affordable outdoor binocular. Great light gathering makes it suitable in low light conditions. Adjustable eye cups allow use with or without glasses – a real plus for eyeglass wearers. Waterproof too. I highly recommend this item.Pros: Reasonable price, waterproof, excellent light gatheringCons: none

This is a great pair of binos! Very sharp & clear edge to edge. Great light gathering ability for low light viewing. These are FULL size binos so they are hand filling. Can't speak to waterproofness yet. Very satisfied so far. Lens caps should be tethered, case is low quality with no shoulder strap. These are my only gripes with the product.Pros: Sharp & clear, Great light gathering ability for low light viewing.Cons: Poor objective lens caps (should be tethered), low quality case with no shoulder strap.

It is a very good product for construction and reliable optical performance under even extreme conditions. It have an high Exit Pupil of 7.1 andperform extremely well in low-light conditions and are rugged enough for outdoor use in all climate conditions. The price is very attractive .

The exit pupil on these is around 7mm, which makes them great for night viewing. Kind of like 'poor man's night vision.'Typical Nikon quality, great product, highly recommended.Pros: Well made, great at night, clear imageCons: A bit heavy, but that's to be expected

The Nikon Action extremes, especially in the bright, 7×50 configuration make for some of the nicest, clearest seeing optics you can ever buy anywhere near this pricepoint. Images are bright enough that even in very low light, if there is some residual star or moonlight you might be able to see large animals like deer in a field at a hundred yard distance or more. The low magnification keeps things very sharp and easy to manage for nautical purposes. I have even used them for astronomy to see Saturn's "ears", the Galilean satellites or wisps of the ring nebula as well as other double stars or just glassing the milky way but they are not great for it, just adequate. I also like the rugged construction in that the lenses are recessed very far back from the outer lips of the binos so that it's hard for things to get in and dirty or scratch them. What is going on is that these binos use the bulkier Porro type prisms which are less expensive to manufacture than the straight through appearing roof prism binoculars. What this means is that usually, if two pairs of binoculars at the same pricepoint are compared, the porro prism binoculars that do not look straight like these will always be better. This means however that these binos are a bit on the bulky and heavy side. You can bring them on a hunt or long hike but the extra mass will weigh you down a bit. The main draback is the portability, if you need something more portable there are other options in roof prism types around this price range like the Prostaff or Bushnell but the images won't be anywhere as clear or bright. The lens caps are also flimsy, fall of or get lost easily though you can build a tape and string mechanism to secure them to the binos so they don't fall off or get lost. The secret service uses these binos to protect the white house for good reason. For the money they give excellent images and resolution, the big objectives and low mage make them useful in a variety of conditions. These make a great gift to someone as a first pair of good binoculars as most people will be used to binos close to or significantly under this price range most of which are nowhere near as good. The price is low enough for anyone to be able to afford them and while much better optics are available, you have to pay a lot, lot more to get measurably better performance.

I chose this binocular for my wife, who usually has a difficult time with setting binoculars just right for her eyes. The 7×50 design gives a huge 7mm exit pupil, which allows for a larger margin of error while bringing the binocular to your eyes. For that purpose, it has been great for my wife. She is consistently able to get a clear, unobstructed (crescents, tunnels, etc) view. The focus wheel is smooth and easy to operate. The diopter adjustment is very easy to operate–almost to its detriment. It is far to easy, in my opinion, to change the diopter setting with general handling. The optical quality is fantastic. Very sharp from edge to edge considering the price point. The depth of field is generous, allowing for less focusing error. My only real complaint is the narrow apparent field. After looking through a different binocular that I have on hand, the Nikon AEs feel like I'm looking through a straw (ok, maybe that's a little bit exaggerated). But the view doesn't bother my wife. The adjustable eye cups allow for easy viewing with or without glasses. Eye relief is ample. These are heavy. Don't expect to comfortably carry and use these on an all-day hike. The big 50mm objective collects a lot of light for nice, bright images. They are fun to turn towards the moon and nighttime sky. However, while looking up towards the sky, the weight of this binocular will start to cause some pain on your face around your eyes if you rest some of the binocular weight on your face. If you don't plan on looking up, then it's not a problem. The objective lens caps are a joke. I can guarantee that we will lose one or both of the lens caps within a month due to their flimsy, non-tethered, lose-fitting design. The included case is functional, but not very useful. It is good for storing the binocular, but not good for transport as there is no strap or provisions for a strap on the case. It does have a belt loop, but you will look like you are toting a fax machine on your hip if you chose to carry them that way–they are big.Overall, they are nice binoculars for the price. The feel very solid in the hand and inspire confidence, and I would worry about dropping them a time or two. Nikon covers them with a 15-year warranty–not bad. Despite the Nikon name, they are built in China (but, what's not anymore!).Pros: Nice Optics, Solid Construction, Smooth AdjustmentsCons: Narrow Apparent Field, Heavy
