Matt in the woods –
I went to our local sporting goods store several years ago and asked what’s the best lower cost binoculars for general/outdoor use. Without hesitation the clerk pulls out the vortex diamondbacks. They were amazing! ..clarity… 3D image. .. I said I can’t spend 200+dollars right now so he said do yourself a favor and save the money until you can get these. I had no idea binoculars can cost so much. He also bragged about the VIP warranty. I later bought a cheap pair At Walmart and they were ok but I always had the diamondbacks in the back of my mind. Once in a while I would check pricing to hope to get lucky and find them on a good sale price. But I never had the money when they were on sale. Until now.. my wife was buying me a present for our anniversary and so I quickly google search the diamondbacks. That’s when I found the OPMOD model for the best price ever! Same price as the crossovers but better product! I quickly emailed vortex to make sure this was legit and these were the same as the normal green diamondbacks hd with the same VIP warranty. They quickly responded with YES! .. buy them and enjoy! So I did. Just as I remember. They’re great and I got them for an awesome price. You should also take advantage of saving 100 bucks and getting a cool unique color that’s different then all your buddies.

So I tried the Viper HD, the OPMOD Diamondback HD, and the Crossfire HD. I didn't like the Viper locking diopter; it seemed too difficult to pull, adjust, and lock in place. Since I'm sharing these with my wife, and I knew she would struggle with the diopter, the Viper's were out. The Crossfires were easy to use and produced an excellent image, in my opinion, so I kept the Crossfires for my wife. I then ordered the OPMOD Diamondback HD's, and compared them to the Crossfires. I got the 10×42 version, since the Crossfires were 8×42 and I didn't want to duplicate the field of view and magnification. Ease of use on the Diamondback's was excellent, as was the image. The Diamondback's were shorter than the Crossfires, so that was a revelation. I like the ergonomics on both binoculars, so my wife gets the Crossfires and I get the Diamonbacks. Here's what I wish I knew: what is the material difference between the OPMOD and regular Diamondbacks, besides the color. Is the glass different, is the roof prism different, are any of the materials different? There is a significant price difference, so I think there must be a reason for that. It just isn't clear in the description and specs of the respective Diamondbacks.Bottom line, if you are a casual birdwatcher and want a great pair of binoculars that fit the bill and don't break the bank, I highly recommend either the Crossfire HD or the OPMOD Diamonback HD binoculars. Also, Optics Planet is a great place to buy them. Easy.

The Vortex OPMOD 10×42 Roof Prism binoculars has been one of my very best purchases in recent memory. The optics are pretty awesome for the price point, pretty lightweight and eyecups are easily adjustable. The only very minor note is that the focus knob is just a tad tighter than I love. Don't get me wrong, all is just fine.Order process with Optics Planet is always concise and shipping has been a breeze with the packaging professionally done. Thanks.
Vortex value –
Honestly surprised at the value here! Binos are compact for 10×42, glass clarity excellent, ergo controls and pamphlet that came with it taught me about ocular lens.not my first vortex product but this one is the most economical.

This looks just like the real Diamondback hd 10×42 except it is grey. The CARRYING POUCH IS STILL TAN JUST LIKE THE REGULAR VERSION. It comes with a strap just for the bino and a harness for the pouch/case. Also there are lens protectors. This is my first bino that cost more than $30.00 so I am pretty impressed with the performance and clarity. The improvement is noticed when magnifying some thing far away and it is just as bright and clear as something close. "Clear" is not only focused but also without grit, haze or dullness from dirty glass. There are pockets on the pouch to put the bino strap, but I am not sure where to put the harness strap when not in use. I just leave the harness strap on the pouch all the time.
