I do a lot of low light and night hunting to control the hog population on our ranch and these have turned out better than I expected for glassing late evening and during full moons. You pay a weight and size penalty for the 50mm objective, but if you are a night hunter it’s totally worth it. The daytime performance is also really nice when you consider the relatively modest price and they easily outclass my Nikon Monarch 5 10x42mm. That said, if you are primarily a whitetail hunter and only shoot during standard legal shooting hours, stay with the smaller 40mm range. The extra light gathering won’t get you a big enough bump in performance to make it worth the size and weight by the time it’s that bright out already. All in all these perform great for the price for a special set of hunting conditions and I’m glad I bought them.

I bought these binoculars for long range shooting out to 1100 yards and they didn't let me down with the clarity, weight and balance. I did not see enough difference when going from the viper to the razor, especially for the price difference.

Upgraded to these from my pair of 8×42 Vortex Diamondbacks. You can easily see a distinct difference in the clarity and sharpness of the image. I looked at several binos at Cabelas to get an idea of the differences in quality in comparison to price. It is definitely worth the jump in price to go from the Diamondbacks to the vipers. I did not see enough difference when going from the viper to the razor, especially for the price difference. Everyone's eyes are different so my advice is to go look for yourself. Once you make your determination on which bino you want, buy it on Optics Planet and save yourself some money.

I have accumulated several pairs of binoculars (all porro-prism) over the years of varying quality and this pair (Vortex HD 10×50) are head and shoulders above the rest. The best pair I had prior to this purchase were a 7×50 marine binocular that had a better view when used for astronomy than a 15×70 purpose built astronomy binocular; much clearer and sharper. The Vortex pair is even better.I purchased the Vortex binoculars about a month ago for an upcoming trip to Yellowstone NP and the Grand Tetons. They performed better than I could have hoped. The lighter weight of the roof prism style was a big plus – I was able to hand-hold the binoculars with a little practice thanks to their weight and relatively small size relative to a porro-prism binocular. Having a 10x vs a 7x was a big plus when observing animals at a distance. I was able to track and identify a bale eagle so far away that I had barely noticed it with my naked eye much less was able to tell what it was.Looking forward to using these for stargazing; hoping to avoid the need for a tripod. I went for the higher priced model to avoid chromatic aberration that could be a problem for astronomy. The sharp focus, eye relief, and field of view should be a big help in watching the Perseids meteor shower in mid August. The carrying case for the binoculars came with a harness to carry them on the chest. I felt that this was not the best approach till I saw many people in the NPs walking with a case on their chest. Great way to carry the binoculars while wearing a backpack, something that I had not taken into account. Planning to break out the harness and give it a try.

Chinese models are inferior. I bought the pair made in the Philippines and the lenses were literally larger than the Chinese ones. You can see by the comparison that they have cut the quality all the way around, the lens sizes, the rubber thickness on the eye cups, how well they adjust and the clarity looking through them. What gives these Binocs the ratings is that warranty which is the best compared to many by far which to me isn't any good if the product fails to give you the best as compared to itself in the past. I would rather go to another brand than live with that. Its my money and I want what I want with it or go without quite frankly. I really DO NOT LIKE CHINA. Nuff said.

I wanted these 10×50's for twilight performance. I have to admit, they do rule the twilight. But I am still disappointed in them. I'll explain.I own the original Vortex Viper HD 10×42 from Japan. Let me describe the difference between those and this new 10×50 Viper.First thing I noticed was no "HD" emblem on the front of the barrels like the original had. The "HD" emblem is on the product box and the Optics Planet web site, but strangely enough not on the actual binoculars barrels anymore. There are also obvious, cost-cutting measures evident on the new pair. The rubber texturing is thinner, less grippy. The center focus knob less texture. The eye cups stops are not as solid.Of course, these are mostly just nits. I'll present the real issue. The picture is not as sharp as I hoped. The colors are not as vivid as I expected.I mean, do they bring things closer? … Yeah, 10 times closer.Do they gather a heck of a lot of light? … Yeah, lots and lots.Is the picture bright? … Yeah, it's very bright.ButNot a good bright, not a detailed bright. Not with vivid colors.Everything is there, bigger and brighter, but nothing stands out.All the best optic lens and prism builds and coatings, but they still offer mediocre color definition.I think Vortex went all out to produce the brightest picture they could. In this, they succeeded. And this is maybe not wrong, considering the only reason to lug 10×50's around is for gathering additional light. But it's not for me, not after having pairs that offer me crisp images and vivid colors, along with just a fair amount of light.
