By far, the best scope I have ever used. I own about 7 different scopes ranging from 5-25×50 vortex all the way down to the 1-4×24 Steiner. It has the best eye relief I have ever seen. Not to mention that they really care about their customers. I ordered one from them a while back and just by the luck of things, the package got delivered while I was away from home. Someone ended up stealing it right off my front porch. I called them up and didn’t hesitate to send me a brand new one free of charge. I will definitely be buying more products from Steiner. I’m in love with them.lol

My first low power variable optic was the Vortex Strike Eagle, a great optic with a ton of value. The reticle was perhaps a bit busy for any kind of medium or long-range work but it was still a good one. No regrets. Next one (which I'm still happily running) was the Trijicon Accupower 1-4×28 with the red segmented circle reticle. Definitely a step up from the Strike Eagle in terms of optics and build quality, and the .75 MOA dot is sweet for longer range stuff. So I'm pretty much sold on the idea of 1-4 or 1-whatever for a do-it-all optic, and the P4Xi really caught my eye. I've never owned a Steiner but I wanted to try it. Found it for a little less than $500 so I picked it up. The verdict? It's a KILLER scope.Build quality is great and the glass quality is superb. Definitely on par with the Accupower and maybe a touch better. That's a very subjective assessment. But the glass is AWESOME. If you get the LE model the included throw lever is a great design and the mag ring is smooth. I love the reticle, and the center dot is absolutely daytime bright. No question. And if isn't not 1x on low it's really, really close. Closer than my MRO, put it that way. Great packaging, great warranty, extra battery…what's not to like??Only cons, and they are very minor: Where the Accupower's illumination dial is real clicky, the P4Xi is noticeably softer. I wouldn't call it mushy, but they aren't exactly crisp. But really not a big deal. Turrets are the same way, but this is a set-and-forget optic so who cares. One note on the turrets- you CAN reset them to zero. On the number ring under the knob, there's a little notch in the back (opposite the 0). When you get it zeroed, take a bullet or small screwdriver or something, hold the knob in place and then slide the number ring around to zero. It's not as elegant as the free-wheeling turret method on the Trijicon, but it works fine. Highly, highly recommend this Steiner. I'll be getting another for another build.

I'd rate this as 97% of my Vortex Razor 1-6 for about 1/3 the price. Same basic retical that is easy to use and clutter free, with an even brighter dot if you like the illumination. The quality of the glass is very good, but I'll save final judgement until after the snow leaves my area and I can try it out at long range. As the Steiner is significantly less weight than the Vortex, I'm slapping this unit on a bay rifle for UML matches where the lack of top end just doesn't matter and transitions are more important.

The P4XI 1-4 is a great LPVO…especially since it comes with real, german Zeiss Schott glass and it is made in America.Steiner has great CS. I have been thoroughly impressed. The biggest selling factor for me is how well 1X is executed…so many tout they are 1X but they have severe fishbowl effect…not the case here…4X is pleeeeenty to go out to 500m…

I have looked through and handled the Trijicon accupowers, accupoints, Vortex viper, Leupold VX-r, patrol, and this is the one that sticks out as the best all-around LPVO for the price point you can get it at.Glass is clear, eye box is huge, eye relief is good. The two things that make this optic an easy choice for me are the fact that it's as true a 1x zoom as you're gonna get, but more importantly, the reticle is just what you need, and nothing more. Many of the competing brands have gone in a direction that has generated extremely and unnecessarily busy reticles, and it kind of drives me crazy. I work in law enforcement and I have the luxury of participating with a few local tac teams. In an urban/suburban setting, you need your true one. The leupold 1.5x zoom just will not due imho. For hunting, an untrue 1x zoom would suffice, but not room clearing. Your eyes fight for dominance and you get two different meshing sight pictures. It's nice to have that boost to 4x with a nice easy throw of the lever, which steiner includes, and that is truly appreciated. When doing room clearing, you also don't need a glowing tree in the middle of your sight picture, like the always affordable vortex strike eagle. Maybe some people are really utilizing all these distance marks on their reticles AND getting quick target acquisition with their giant glowing horseshoe rings, but if it were up to me, I'd probably have a dot in the middle, and 3 lines coming toward the center, no top line coming down. When it is in 1x zoom, I want to be tricked into thinking I'm using a red dot, and when I need a little bit of an enhanced visual, I don't need 6 rows of glowing lines for shots out to 200, 300, 400, 500 and 600 yards. Some will disagree with me and want the most they can get. I believe simplicity and reliability wins. The steiner seems to be built tough and robust. Time will tell if it is.While the accupower is a good second place, the accu 1-4's reticle illumination is not daytime bright. That isn't a huge deal-breaker, but I have yet to utilize the brighter half of the settings on the steiner because of how bright they can get. I like having a wide range of illumination settings, because I can create a tiny red center point, no matter what the level of brightness I'm working with in my environment. The accupoint seems to be a great value as well, and requires no batteries to be effective, but the illumination is what it is and more importantly, you're going to spend hundreds more. This is THE LPVO for real-world application, imho. On the right day, with the right coupon code, you'll pay a little over 500 for this optic, but it's still worth what it's listed for.God Speed.

I put this on my new Windham AR 9mm, and it works really nice. It adds a bit of weight and size, but the speed of acquisition with the 1X makes it worth it. I usually go with a fixed 4X, which I have on most of my rifles since the mid 1970s. My favorite is an extinct Weaver 3X wide angle that I've dispatched over a thousand ground squirrels with, and if I were to use a 9mm on garden munching ground squirrels the Steiner P4Xi would be much better, although way overkill, lol. The red dot really helps my old eyes in dark situations, which is why I bought the Steiner P4Xi for home defense. I had thought about updating my antique Mini-14, but I decided to go new instead, with a lighter round so as not to endanger neighbors with rounds that go through walls easily. The P4Xi is perfect for checking out those bumps in the night with my old dog.
